My sister Katya challenged me to create a unique virtual experience equaling a pre-Covid baby shower. Unlike traditional baby showers however, Katya requested an intimate digital gathering with close friends and family that had an element of spiritual guidance for Katya and her husband Dan to prepare for parenthood. This is where The Counsel was born. In keeping with our Russian family tradition of long format toasts, I asked each guest to prepare a 5 minute toast that spoke to the past, present, and future. Inspired by Katya’s love of tarot card readings, each guest was given a tarot card connected to fertility and new beginnings to frame their toasts to Katya and Dan. Following the toast section, Dan gave us a museum-like tour of the nursery which he spent the first 4 months of Quarantine building. The experience was filled with advice, laughter, tears, drinks, and compliments!
